LAURA ALONSO

CURRICULUM VITAE:

GENERAL DIRECTOR OF THE PRO DANCE CENTER OF CUBA. GRAND MAITRE DE BALLET. PROFESSOR OF THE SUPERIOR INSTITUTE OF ART OF CUBA. PRESIDENT OF THE INTERNATIONAL DANCE ASSOCIATION FOR THE AMERICAS, (AIDA). She started her training since a very young age: Academia Pro Arte Musical (1941). Ballet Academy "Alicia Alonso" (1948). American Ballet Theater School (1954). New York Metropolitan Opera House (1957). Monte Carlo Russian Ballet (1955). Bolshoi Ballet (1966-68). National Ballet of Cuba (1969-87).


Alonso professional experience includes all the repertoire of the National Ballet of Cuba and as the first soloist she has a part in: Havana 1830, A concert in black and white, The Nutcracker, Spring waters, The night of Walpurgis, Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, Coppelia, Carmen, Giselle, The Sylphs, Plasmasis, Our America, Grand pas de Quatre, among others. She also appears in the films: Giselle and An Altarpiece for Romeo and Juliet and in the TV Shows: Alicia Alonso and the Ballet in Cuba, USA (1971) and Grand Pas de Quatre and Carmen, Hungary (1972).
Alonso tours around the world include: Venezuela, United States, Argentina, Mexico, Russia, China, Hungary, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Canada, Australia, Japan, Denmark, among others.


As a teacher she plays an important rol in: Ballet Academy "Alicia Alonso" (1955). National Ballet School (1962). Psychoballet (1972). Cuban Institute of Radio and Ballet of Television (1976). Musical Theater of Havana (1978). Ballet of the Theater “Karl Marx”. Ballet of the National Tourism Institute (1984). She also has taught master classes at the Higher Institute of Arts in Cuba, Australia, Brazil, China, Denmark, USA, Iceland and Mexico. As a Director she leads: Psychoballet / Cuballets / "The Young Guard" / Department of Specialized Teaching of the National Ballet of Cuba / Pro Dance Center of Cuba and "Concert Ballet of Havana". Order "Serving Puerto Rico", 1978. Recognition medal in "The Second World Ballet Festival", Tokyo Ballet Company, 1979. Adoptive daughter and delivery of the Key to the City of Camaguey, 1979. To date Ms. Alonso has been a member of the faculty of the organizing committee of the Jackson contest, Mistress of the Monterrey Ballet, teacher of the Finnish Opera and the Finnish National School, teacher at Ohio University and the University of Dayton. She has also been director of the Cuballets made in Brazil for 12 years and in Cuba for 33 uninterrupted years, of the stagings of the recently released Yarini and Le Chevalier de Saint George ballets.
In the months of December 2014 to February 28, 2015, the company led by the teacher Laura Alonso made a successful tour of 20 cities, with 32 presentations, in the People's Republic of China.


In the Magazine edited by Unesco, Master Laura Alonso was selected to represent women in Cuba for her outstanding work in the world of culture, especially in dance (classical ballet).
